BAROQUE ART PERIOD

The Baroque period was a style in art and architecture developed and orginiated in Rome, in between the 17th and 18th centuries. It was the elaborated art period, where decorative art and architecture grew and evolved. The art pieces within the baroque era, were created by many talented artists and architects, who were influenced by the historical and cultural events, that was happening in the time.
Art and architecture from the baroque period required significant features and characteristics, which completed all the mesmerizing art pieces. It was the period of artistic style therefore having detailed art and architecture, as well as exaggerated emotion. The colours, heights, depth, detail and elaboration in both art and architecture, were necessary. During the time it was also a time of wealth, so big churches were built filled with baroque artworks. This was a style of art that emphasised dramatic artworks and architecture, described as decorative art.

What was happening historically and culturally during the baroque period was that the style of art was influenced by many other styles of art. During the art movement artists and architects begun to create more realistic and bold artworks and architectures, using such great elaboration and facial emotions. These art pieces taught about more of the religion Christianity, Jesus' life, Saints and stories from the bible. This was strongly supported by Catholic Churches and decided to add these art pieces into their churches, and all around Europe.
This affected how Jesus was portrayed during this historical art period, as the art and architecture created by famous artists/architects taught many people about Christianity and Jesus through their piece of work. Jesus was portrayed masculine and the most important figure within art pieces from this art period.
